A. You must have a 4 years degree. There is no way around this.

B. You Should have at least one year in outside B2B sales. A great personalty and interest in helping others will not land you a pharmaceutical sales position. Very few companies hire without true OUTSIDE sales experience. 12 months pass quickly so go to work for xerox, paychex, Icon, or ADP and you may find yourself recruited having no need to actively look for a pharma spot.
C. Do not tell a hiring manager you want to get into pharmaceutical sales to help people. You will be told to look for a position in nursing or other allied health fields. At the end of the day getting the right pharmaceuticals to the right people will help them. You are looking for a business sales position so do not tell a hiring manager you want a pharmaceutical sales position since you like to help people.

D. You should do at least one ride along with a pharmaceutical rep before you land your fist face to face interview. Competition is fierece and you should separate yourself from the competition.

E. You should visit with as many physicians and front desk staff as possible. Ask physicians and office staff what they like/dislike about pharmaceutical sales representatives that call upon their office. Hiring managers want to know that you are familiar with the CHALLENGES you will face as a pharmaceutical rep.

F. You should not have a DUI or other major driving infractions. Be upfront with the hiring manager since a background and driving record check will be done prior to hiring.
